Hapé/Rapéh

What is Hapé/Rapéh?

Hapé or rapéh (pronounced ha-PAY or ra-PAY) is a sacred blend of finely ground medicinal plants, often including tobacco. This powerful snuff is administered through the nostrils using a kuripe or tepi, facilitating a deep connection to the earth and spirit. The preparation of Hapé is a sacred art, honoring the wisdom of the plants and the ancestors who have passed down this knowledge through generations.

The Kuripe is a small v-shaped blowpipe that allows for self-administrating of Hapé by gently blowing the sacred powder into each nostril. This personal ritual invites introspection and grounding. Alternatively, the Tepi, a longer curved blowpipe, is used when another person administers the Hapé. This method not only intensifies the effects but also incorporates the spiritual energy of the person serving.

Benefits of Hapé

We work with Hapé during our retreats and ceremonies because of its effects on the body and spirit. Each blend of plants has its own properties, though the following benefits are most common.

Grounding and Centering: Quiet the mind and anchor yourself in the present moment.

Clarity and Focus: Clear mental fog, enhancing your concentration and insight.

Emotional Release: Let go of emotional blockages and past traumas.

Connection to Self/Nature: Deepen your bond with the natural world and your inner self.
